How is private therapy different from school-based therapy?

There are so many benefits to private therapy! Private services can address any and all areas of need and are not limited to focusing on only educational goals as set by state mandates. Private therapy also allows for one-on-one therapy, ensuring your child gets the optimal amount of therapy time verses a group environment. Private therapy lets us create individualized therapy plans that personally fit your child’s and family’s needs. Plans can be adjusted easily depending on a client's progress. Another reason why private therapy is so amazing is the parent involvement! In private therapy caregivers are encouraged to be involved and get frequent communication from their therapists. Sadly, in schools parent communication is 1-3 times per year through IEP meetings.

Private therapy utilizes the patient’s insurance and/or also accepts self-pay for therapy sessions. There may be some financial cost; however, progress is usually quicker. Therefore, your child is in therapy for a shorter amount of time. This is worth it for many families!

How do i begin the process of getting therapy for my child?

Ask your child’s primary care physician for a referral to our clinic! Once referred, a comprehensive evaluation takes place. If the child is found to be eligible for services, an individualized therapy plan will be created and discussed with parents before therapy begins. The caregiver and therapist will work together in determining the appropriate amount of therapy time, the best therapy location, and what kind of expertise might be most useful to achieve the outcomes. We are here to help! If you have any questions on how to enroll your child, please call our clinic number and speak to our referral coordinator.

How often and how far long will by child need therapy?

Families often ask how long their child will be in therapy. While there is no set answer to that question, research does indicate that frequency, intensity and duration of treatment impacts outcomes. We do have difficulty with answering this question. The reason for this is that there are a multitude of factors that need to be considered when determining the length of therapy such as the diagnosis, severity, readiness of child, and parental/family involvement. It’s human nature for parents, and children alike, to want to see quick results when starting speech therapy. However, it is important for parents and children to remember that everybody is different and learns at their own pace.
